There are 2 very distinct seasons at the Sundance Resort. Summer and Winter. Both offer different experiences. You have Summer Mountain Biking, Hiking and Ziplining. Then you have the Winter Snow sports season. We visited in Summer and it was a gloriously hot day. This guide to visiting Sundance will give you all the information you need for your latest trip.
Where is Sundance?
You find Sundance just outside of Provo Utah. Driving a long winding road up to the resort is 100% part of the adventure. The views are just stunning. There are 4 car parks at the resort and these are not free. It ranges from $5 to $25+. Or in winter if there are 4 or more occupations in the car it is complimentary.
Lift Passes
Lift Passes are needed to access all areas of the Sundance resort. Summer 2022 prices start at $25* for the scenic lifts and $45 for the mountain biking lift pass (per day) or $300 for the season.
Winter Season passes for skiing and snowboarding vary in price for the 2022/2023 season. Starting at $129 for adults per day. Up to $849 for the whole winter season + Summer lift passes. Even though seems expensive if you are making 6+ visits works out better value.

A guide to Visiting Sundance in Summer
In summer you can take the lifts for a scenic ride and then a hike. Mountain bike down the mountain. Take a Zip Line tour or maybe even try horseback riding.
The Zipline tour covers over 1.8 miles and is the 3rd longest Zip Line in the USA. 10 miles of hiking trails. 25 miles of lift-accessible mountain biking trails.
We rode Outlaw, Stairway, and Red’s Lifts to get Bearclaw Lodge. It was early July and hot. I recommend lots of sun cream and do not forget your water. (I managed to burn with factor 50.) The views were spectacular.
A guide to Visiting Sundance in Winter
Sundance in winter is an active ski resort. With all 5 lifts, 44 runs covering 450 acres. You can snowboard, ski and snowshoe. If you don’t have the kit there is a Rental store, so there is no need to worry if you’ve not got the gear and are at the beginning of your winter sports journey. There’s even a bookable lesson option.
I do wish we were there for the Full Moon activities. Skiing by moonlight sounds awesome. Wrap up warm and experience what the mountains have to offer.
Where to eat at Sundance
There are a number of restaurants and eateries but our favourite was Bearclaw Cabin. You have to ride 3 lifts to reach it but it is 100% worth the ride. Take Outlaw, Stairway, and Red’s Lifts to the only mountaintop lodge in Utah. 60-degree views of Heber and Utah Valleys and the surrounding Wasatch Mountains. Enjoy tacos, burritos, nachos and drinks at the top of the mountain.
The menu overall is limited but do remember you are at the top of a mountain. You are looking at $18 Nachos and $18 Burritos. So not the cheapest either but sitting there having a glass of wine and watching the world go by is one of the top moments of our trip to Utah.
Where to Stay on site at SUNDANCe
Sundance has some beautiful-looking onsite accommodations. From Lodges nestled in the mountains where you need a 4×4 in winter to access, to rooms located in Mandan. We didn’t stay onsite on our last visit, partly because it was out of our budget for that trip and somewhat as we were flying home the next day early we stayed closer to SLC airport.
Sundance Suite. The best price I could find was $289 on a Sunday night in April 2023 (2 nights minimum). These come with all the usual high-end amenities and a cosy fireplace. I love the rustic cabin vibes. Sundance really has nailed the designs.
Sunstone. It is a 3-bedroom treehouse, with a cosy fireplace and it is also close to the Spa. Honestly, the geometric roof and the modern cabin vibes are 100% perfect. It also sleeps up to 8 people. The best price I could find was $816 in May 2023. There is a 2-night minimum. Working out at $100 per person per night is not the end of the world.
Sunadnce Film Festival
A Guide to visiting Sundance wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Sundance Film Festival. 100’s of films have launched at the Sundance film festival since its beginnings in 1985, and in 2023 after a 2 year break the festival is back to an in-person event. There are films shown all across Salt Lake City, Park City and of course the Sundance Mountain Resort. Tickets start at $20 for online screenings and $25 for in-person screenings.
